They have a range of expertise, which suits us because we have different types of businesses which require specialised information. They are prompt, I can ring with a query and it's either answered then or very soon after and the answer always takes into consideration how it affects our particular business.

The thing I appreciate most is knowing that not only are they great accountants, they have high business standards and nothing is let slip through, so if we were audited tomorrow I know there would be no problems, everything is done to the letter.

We are in quite a unique position in that our Accountant - Geoff van Asch is one of our growers. When I first joined Astrolabe Wines this was a concern to me and I sat down with Geoff and discussed it. My worries were short lived because he is a consummate professional. I think it is testament to the type of guy he is that he can wear both hats and handle this dual relationship with ease.

TvA and Geoff are management accountants for us, they are our 'financial rudder'. They have empathy, personality and are real people. They are certainly as far away from the stereotypical 'bean counter' mould, as you could possibly get. They are also genuinely interested in what we are doing and I value his business acumen. I don't think Geoff could look at a set of our accounts without finding something we could do differently to improve the business.

We have an honest, robust relationship, and we feel we are a much better company from having them on board.

We were with another accountant and approached Peter Tolan from TvA Lock about Quickbooks. He came down and had a cup of coffee with us in our smoko room and talked us through everything and explained how it would work with our business. It was the way he listened and understood what we were trying to do that sold us. We decided to go with Quickbooks and also change accountants; we have been with TvA for 10 years now.

TvA Lock does more than just do our annual accounts. The biggest thing for me is their service - it's outstanding. I consider them to be part of our business. We are good at what we do and I trust them to make the big financial decisions that affect how we run our business - that's how much faith I have in them and how much I rely on them. They have always been in our corner and their understanding of our business is the big key for us, they just get it. I can ring them anytime and know that they will be there with a depth of knowledge I can draw on. I recommend them to others without question, something I don't do easily, these guys are good!

When we wanted to buy this business just over 5 years ago the bank thought we were mad, in fact they weren't even slightly interested in looking at it further. Then a friend recommended Peter Tolan at TvA so we gave him a call. He took the time (actually quite a bit of time) to look at some figures with us and do some costings - and well the rest is history!

Our business has gone from strength to strength and Peter has stuck behind us all the way. He has always shown a genuine interest and given us great business advice. He treated us like we were people rather than a file or a number and he seems always one step ahead of us, taking the initiative and come up with ideas and advice that will help our business, and 9 times out of 10 we take it!
