How do you know KiwiSaver has been good for you?

Date: 21 March 2013

KiwiSaver has been around for 5 years. Much was promised by the Labour government when it was introduced. National changed the rules after a million NZ'ers had signed up. So how do you know KiwiSaver has been good for you and your employees?

Have the KiwiSaver investment funds returned an adequate return? Sure it depends on your personal risk tolerance but have a look at a few typical funds such as the ANZ or Westpac product.

Google "anz kiwisaver performance" click through to the website then select "Fund performance".

Since launch the conservative balanced fund has returned 5.29% and 11.88% in the last year.

Now Google "Westpac Kiwisaver Scheme Balanced Fund"

Since launch the conservative balanced fund has returned 3.6% and 11.6% in the last year.

A point being, for balanced/conservative funds from two NZ main street banks, the capital is intact and the return has been satisfactory and growing, for now!

Hint; is it time to look at switching the type of fund?

Watch this space.
