Implementing the BHAG
You will have listed the top 25 tasks that you carry out and delegated (to outside sources if necessary) those that you don't want to be doing. Review the list and delegate more. Prioritise those tasks that you will continue doing.
Now that your current task list has been trimmed, what ones will you start doing? These will be focused around where you want the business to be in three to five years time, and what you need to do to achieve this. Make it personal, as in "what is in it for me?"
To implement these plans there should be an annual planning meeting, involving all of the stakeholders in the business. At this meeting the five year plan is agreed upon, and then broken down into annual, quarterly, monthly goals. Set the key priorities for the year ahead - and how progress toward these goals will be measured.
The planning meeting may be followed up with a session for the entire team, where individual accountabilities and targets are assigned in line with your business objectives. This will be followed by quarterly review meetings to update and revise or raise the bar on targets.
