Date: 13 October 2014

We are very excited to see Dr Deb Shepherd - an expert on how to grow small to medium businesses - coming to Marlborough.

Deb's particular interests are in entrepreneurial family business, SME growth, SME governance, leadership, strategy and internationalisation - enabling and growing business in New Zealand.

Deb combines academic research with leadership through several directorships of a number of privately owned NZ businesses. She is a senior lecturer in Management and International Business at the University of Auckland Business School, a founding faculty member of The IceHouse Growth programmes, and also co-author of the book "Changing gears: How to take your kiwi business from the kitchen table to the board table."

At the Institute of Directors luncheon she will talk about her experience with SME's, including what has worked well and how challenges have been overcome. Particular topics she will cover are:

  • Learning from the good, the bad and the ugly of the world of SME's
  • Advice and governance - what might it all mean to SME's
  • Getting that first Board in place - why and how
  • Why does strategy seem so complicated?

It's a fantastic opportunity to hear a person of Dr Deb Shepherd's calibre speak - we highly recommend attending.
