Earn rewards on IRD payments!
IRD are now accepting credit or debit card payments, so if for any reason you are unable to access your internet banking or pay by cash or eftpos at Westpac you can now use the Credit/Debit card option on the IRD website.
However, there is a catch (of course). Westpac are providing the service under an agreement with the IRD where you can use Visa, Mastercard or any debit card and Westpac will charge you a convenience fee of 1.42% per transaction.
You can use the service to pay all tax types with the exception of payments made from overseas for student loans or non-custodial child support payments.
Depending on your card type you may also be entitled to points, rewards, etc but you need to check with your credit card provider to confirm.
A payment made this way will show on your credit or debit card statement as an IRD payment with the amount paid
The IRD receives the standard information only of IRD number, amount, surcharge amount if applied and the period the payment relates to. No other information is received.
This is a handy option if you happen to get caught out, however if you find you are starting to rely on this option perhaps you might like to get in contact with us to discuss cash flow management options. We are always happy to talk with you. Please give us a call on 03 578 3386 or send us an email at askme@tva.co.nz
