The Government has passed the Holidays (Increasing Sick Leave) amendment bill to increase the minimum employee sick leave entitlement from five days to 10 days per year.
If an employee has worked for an employer for six months or more, they are entitled to sick leave if they, a dependant, spouse, or partner are sick or injured.
Employees who already get 10 or more sick days a year will not be affected by these law changes.
The maximum entitlement requirement of unused sick leave that an employee receives remains at 20 days.
