Payer Beware!

The new MyIR GST platform provides you with the opportunity to pay your GST and your GST/PROV tax directly from within their site.

But be aware!  If you select this option you are in actual fact providing the IRD with a direct debit authority to your bank account that remains in force until you cancel it.  The terms and conditions of the authority do mean that IRD must notify you if they wish to take a payment using the authority.

Notification must allow 10 working days before the planned direct debit.  Notification may be in writing (snail mail), or email/secure mail, so you need to pay attention to any mail notifications from the MyIR platform in case there is a direct debit notification.

Make sure you read all your notifications carefully.

Our recommendation is that you make your IRD payments from your banking software to maintain control of your cash outflows, at least until the system is well tested.

If you have any questions regarding this please give us a call 03 578 3386 – we can help.
